The ordering of prescriptions should be done giving the Practice around 7 days notice to get it authorised and to the Pharmacy of the patients choice.
Requests for prescriptions outside the normal system impact significantly on GP and administrative staff time and increase the risk of a prescribing error. Unless medication is clinically urgent and on the list below requests will be treated as routine and in line with our normal processing times. Our Administrative colleagues are instructed to follow this policy and are not permitted to make any exceptions.
The medications listed on the attached document below may be issued on an urgent, same-day basis as you could experience clinical harm within 2 working days by missing doses.
Community pharmacies are able to give emergency supplies of most medicines to patients.
